As parents you all know we are dying to hear out kiddos say “mommy” and all the other little mispronounced words that develop on their journey to toddlerhood. Then the nonstop chatter starts and doesn’t cease. I love the fact Olivia is forming sentences and we can hold little conversations together. She cracks me up with some of the things she comes up with…I’m sure the kids in her 2K class at school help a lot. (on a side note: thanks to all those parents whose kids undo all my good deeds with my kid).

The downside to her new found and highly used language skills is the sass. WOW. Who would have thought my gorgeous, loving, freely kissing two year old could spew sooo much sass? Sister goes all out with her hands on her hips and her head cocked to one side. I swear the day she gives me the “chicken neck” we’re headed to therapy. She still collapses like a noodle when she’s ticked off and potty training? So out the door. She would rather tinkle buckets in her pull ups than use the potty when she’s mad…and she does. We were out shopping one day and she was mad because she had to give the cashier what she was carrying so we could pay for it and she stood with her “make my day” face. The cashier told her how cute she was, etc. and little missy threw her hands on her hips, cocked her head, stuck out her tongue and said, “Blahhh.” OMG. I was mortified. What do you do? I’ll tell you..grab up your slinking to the floor 2 year old under your arm and tote her out screaming and try not to cringe when she looks you dead square in the eyes and says “Wub you.”

On a positive note, she can identify Bon Jovi on the radio and Muzak now and asks for him by name. That’s my 80s hair band loving tot.

Memorial Day is celebrated by different people in different ways and its meaning holds just as many differences. To some it’s a day off from work. To some it’s a chance for sales. To many of us it’s a day of honor and rememberance; remembering those who died while defending our Nation and its values.

As Memorial Day approaches us, the L family will remember those who have helped to attain our country’s honor and those who lost their lives defending it. As a spouse, I humbly thank all those who have served with our family over the years and those who continue to serve our Nation. As I’ve said before, our family extends past the four walls of our home and blood relatives. Our family includes our brothers and sisters in uniform as well as their families.

I ask that everyone take just a moment to step back from the potato salad and flag football games and before you head out in search of the best deals to remember what Memorial Day is about. Without the sacrifice of so many, our lives would not be what they are today.

Happy Anniversary, Will. I love you bunches!

I’m a week two weeks late with this but it seems to be my recurrent theme of late.

A local radio station has a Second Chance Prom every year to benefit their charity.  I’ve wanted to go for the past 8 years but there has always been something that stood in the way or Will just flat out refusing to go.  This year while he was on AT, I bought tickets.  Hah.  We went with Shannon and Tony and I must tell you, it was a freaking riot!  We had the best time evah!  It was way better than a high school prom; everyone had to be over 21 and there was a cash bar.  We danced.  We laughed.  We made fun of those who brought out their mid-80s prom dresses.  It ranged from church-type clothes to shiny pimp-like duds.  I told Shannon that even though we were giggling our tushies off at the puff sleeves and Gone With the Wind-esque bows, every girl there thought she was the bell of the ball and felt pretty*, which is very, very important.  However, their friends should have been gracious enough to tell them that sleeves stuffed with tissue paper went out with Hammer pants.  Will even had a better time than he ever thought possible; I think we all did.

It was an amazing night and I hope that those who turned us down this year will go next year.   For the rest of you, pack up and head our way – you can go, too.

Hammer pants (for those who may not know or can’t remember)

*Before anyone stumbles here and makes a snide comment:

  • No, I don’t think I’m better than anyone.  I just dressed more tasteful than some and I know it – so did 93% of the other people there.
  • My dress was bought 3 weeks before prom so I know it’s in the right decade.  Besides, it’s black, not peach taffeta.
  • Shannon went with me and told me what looked good and didn’t and I trust her.

Okay, not so much but was so much fun reading it over at Shanny’s blog, I thought it would be fun to participate…

Shannon interviewed me. Her questions are below. If you’d like to participate, here are the RULES.

If you want to participate:
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me”, or words to that effect.
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions, but I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You have to include this explanation, and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

SHANNON’S questions and my answers:

1. If you were forced to give up one of your five senses, which would you pick?

Smell. I like to see all things pretty, touch all things soft, taste all that is glorious and hear the screeching of my child. Smelling I can do without. It wouldn’t bother me to not smell stinky people, dirty feet or other unpleasant odors.
2. You win the big jackpot in the lottery. $50 million. After you
give to charity, pay for another adoption, buy new houses and pay off
bills, what’s the first truly indulgent thing you spend your money
on? And it has to be just for you.

Liposuction on the hips, thighs, and belly. Tushie lifted and b00bs repositioned to their original location. Seriously.
3. If a movie was made based on your life, who would play you and
your husband & why?

Mmmm…this one took some serious thought. I would want to be played by Reese Witherspoon. She’s sexy, got a great smile and a killer body – just like me so it was a natural choice. heh. For Will…I think I would want him played by Matthew McConaughey. Why? He’s hot.
4. Would you walk naked down your street, with all your neighbors
watching, for $1 million?

In a skinny minute. I don’t know most of my neighbors anyway. Besides, with a million bucks I could move and never have to see them ever again.
5. If you could live anywhere in the world for a year (money is no
object) where would you live?

Anywhere that is sunny, sandy and 72* all year long. If there’s not one place, then I’d island hop making sure I stay within my specs.

It’s What Day?!?
